I Break for Graffiti

I was in Portland, Maine, two weekends ago – one of my all-time favorite towns. Fortunately for me, some pretty cool people live there too!graffiti

After a morning photo shoot on the beach with Lollie, I found that my friends were just heading out for brunch. I’ve never been a good brunch person (indoors, losing half the day *shudder*), and by that time I had been up and out for a few hours already. So while they sat down at, admittedly, a pretty awesome looking brunch spot, I took the opportunity to do some shooting for myself… just exploring and seeing what caught my eye. I only had my Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens on the camera.

It was pretty hard to miss this gorgeous wall of graffiti! (sorry for the logo-happiness today!)

I totally admire the artwork on this building, from the decisions of color to the placement and design. While graffiti often gets a bad rap, this example is an incredible piece of neighborhood art.

There were other things to look at, of course. Leafy things.

jess - simply gorgeous, stace. L.O.V.E. these shots. i kind of feel like there should be a different word for pretty (and also read: legal) graffiti, since the word often immediately conjures up bad first impressions. bravo!

Lisa Walsh - Love all of the color in this post!! I’m also a fan of the shallow DOF in these. I’ve never really made friends with my 50mm f/1.4. It’s not the aperture, it’s the focal length.
