City Dog: New York

Based on my location, I obviously get a lot of calls for beach photography. You even just met Bella who came up from New York City to meet me on the beach in Connecticut! I usually guide my clients to the beaches with the most varied photo backdrop – rocks, grasses and wooden structures, in addition to the water and sandbars. But truth be told, I have an ever-growing list of non-beach locations that I’d love to shoot too, such as old train cars, tall grasses, rusted vehicles, historical buildings and industrial buildings. Make sure you’re a fan of Cold Nose Photo on Facebook to find out about upcoming deals to help you and me both get there!

So you can imagine how excited I was to head into New York’s Greenwich Village this past weekend for a shoot with Chloe! This session was a gift from Sadie & Carmine in Boston – I think it was a gift to Chloe and to me actually!

We started with a little lounging on the fire escape to set the mood.

Then Chloe showed me a few of her favorite spots inside. She’s a rescue, some mix of lab and basset hound is the guess, I believe. Such a lovable and willing model.

This is when the crazy dog photographer lady laid down in the middle of 5th Ave. I remember the NYC cabbies being pretty angry fellas when I was a kid, but I actually got yelled at by a road-biker for this, ha!

We walked over to Washington Square Park as well. When Chloe sees a tree, all she can think about is SQUIRREL. After a few attempts at calling her name and making squeaky noises, I realized I was just going to have to move myself between that solid gaze and whatever she perceived to be happening in the trees. (I’ll be removing the leashes in these final photos, but was feeling a little eager to share this peek with you!)

We walked down this adorable hidden road called Washington Mews, with stucco walls and unique and colorful doors. Though less of the “city” atmosphere, this made for some really fun photos.

I have a feeling I’ll be back with more photos to share from this session! I had such a great time meeting Chloe and wandering the city streets from a dog’s eye perspective. Hopefully this will be the first of many trips (but I’ll definitely need to pack lighter on the photo gear, yikes)! Thanks for a wonderful day, Sue and to Karen & Erik for introducing us!
