Yep, you’re catching us in the midst of a week-long cohabitation with a third dog – a Chesapeake Bay Retriever named Kenai!
We didn’t really know Kenai that well before offering to take him in. He’s adorable, right? So what more could we need to know? Besides, he didn’t know us that well either, poor guy.
Turns out Kenai is obsessive about water, pees constantly as a result and can chew almost anything down to shreds. But yeah, he’s still damn adorable. And he’s sleeping right now – shhhhhh!
I’m gonna share a little story. I know his owners will read it and might feel horrible, but they shouldn’t – it was really quite a hilarious little moment in time this afternoon, and any good dog owner could write a book on these kinds of things.
So I worked from home today and had a full day scheduled of conference calls. Kenai’s a chatty little fella, but that was okay for the conference calls when I could be on mute. This afternoon, however, I decided to let all three dogs bask in the sunshine on their beds on our side deck while I took a call.
I hear this odd-sounding noise half way through my call so I get up and look down the hall toward the deck. Kenai himself is standing there peeing… RIGHT on our sliding glass door! What?! The two other dogs were just standing back a bit with a look to say “Dude, wtf are you doing?”
But that’s not all. I chuckled a bit, planned to get the hose out of its winter hiding so the door didn’t suddenly become a pee-party for all, and then I saw more. Behind Kenai. A monsterous pile of white, fluffy stuffing. The gutted insides of one of our Orvis dog beds (shout out to our buddy Orvis!). Whoopsie.
Jess & Nate, PLEASE don’t worry! For every bad dog story, there are many more that can top it (and we probably have ‘em)!
The day ended with a three-mile run with Kenai and now he has crashed. Tomorrow we’re off to Chequasset Neck in Wellfleet, which is a four+ mile hike on the ocean that will surely deliver the same punch.
For the record, we love him even more now than we did when he arrived!
